Midland County Educational Service Agency
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department
Department Vision/Goal
Our vision is to provide educational opportunities for individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing to develop skills necessary to effectively and independently participate in school and community environments by providing resources to parents, educators, and community partners. These educational opportunities are provided through a lifespan perspective delivered at various age ranges with varying foci.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program Description
The DHH Department supports Midland County local school districts with their students who have been diagnosed with hearing levels that are determined by an IEP team to adversely affect educational performance or development.
Teacher Consultant Services
Students receive services from a Teacher Consultant for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Our teacher consultants provide direct services and consultative services. Our educators for DHH work with an IEP team to assure your student's/child's needs are met. Goals and objectives are written to align with Michigan Common Core Standards, ensuring your student/child gains equal access to the curriculum.
Audiological Services
Providing optimal listening is essential to accessing the curriculum for our deaf and hard of hearing students. In addition to the teacher consultants' regular maintenance of amplification systems, Midland County Educational Service Agency offers the support of an Educational Audiologist. Our audiologist is included on IEPs as a supplementary service.
Interpreting Services
For our deaf students who acquire information through a visual communication system, we have skilled interpreters. The interpreters are skilled in American Sign Language (ASL), SEE, and/or Pidgin (PSE) to support the IEP team goals and objectives designed for your student/child.
